📜 Pro Services — Terms & Disclaimers

Version 2026-09-27 · Applies to Get Quotes job requests, the Pro Vendor program, job-related messaging, quotes, invoices, reviews, and related emails on SailboatsUSA.com

The short version

  • We connect; we don’t contract. Sailboats USA helps sailboat owners and marine businesses find each other and keep messages, quotes, and invoices in one place. We are not a party to any agreement between an owner and a business.
  • We never handle money. We don’t collect, hold, or process payments, deposits, or refunds. Owners pay businesses directly, outside this site.
  • Badges aren’t guarantees. “✓ Pro,” “⭐ Preferred,” and “✓ Verified job” are not licenses, background checks, endorsements, or warranties.
  • Owners: verify licenses, insurance, and references yourself and get the scope and price in writing before work starts.
  • Businesses: you’re responsible for your work, licensing, insurance, taxes, and everything on your quotes and invoices.

1. What Sailboats USA does — and doesn’t do

Sailboats USA (“we,” “us”) operates SailboatsUSA.com. “Pro Services” means the Get Quotes job requests, the Pro Vendor program, job-related messaging, the quote and invoice tools, and related emails. By posting a job request, applying to be a Pro, replying to a job, or creating, sending, accepting, or declining a quote or invoice, you agree to these terms.

2. Who can use Pro Services

3. For sailboat owners

  • Do your own homework. Before hiring anyone, confirm their license(s), insurance (ask for a current certificate naming the work), references, and any permits or marina/yard rules the work requires. Pro approval is a basic review of information the business submitted — it is not a background check, license or insurance verification, or endorsement.
  • “⭐ Preferred” is an editorial designation chosen by the site administrator. It doesn’t mean a business is best suited to your job and isn’t a guarantee of quality, price, or conduct.
  • Get it in writing. Agree on scope, parts, price, schedule, warranty, and cleanup before work starts. Our quote tool is a convenience; the agreement is between you and the business.
  • Accepting a quote tells the business you want to proceed on the terms shown. Whether and how that creates a binding agreement is between you and the business. Declining or ignoring a quote creates no obligation.
  • Payments happen outside this site. Pay only by methods you’re comfortable with and that give you a record. Be cautious with large up-front deposits, and never send money in response to a message or payment request you didn’t expect.
  • Your boat, your call. You decide who boards your boat and when. Sailboats USA isn’t responsible for injury, loss, theft, or damage to your vessel or property arising from any work, visit, or transaction arranged through the site.
  • Inviting a vendor you know. You can invite specific businesses to quote your request, even if they aren’t Pros. Only invite businesses that are happy to be contacted, and use their correct email. Sailboats USA hasn’t reviewed businesses you invite — the same homework applies. The business you invite can see your request’s details, and its name and email are visible to you and site admins.
  • Accurate requests. Describe the job honestly, post only photos you have the right to share, and close or update a request once you’ve hired someone or no longer need the work.

4. For marine businesses (Pros)

  • You’re an independent business. You’re solely responsible for your work and workmanship, warranties, safety practices, employees and subcontractors, and for holding every license, permit, registration, certification, and insurance policy required where you work.
  • Accuracy. Everything in your listing, Pro application, replies, quotes, and invoices must be true and current. Misrepresenting licenses, insurance, experience, affiliation, or pricing is grounds for immediate removal.
  • Respond responsibly. Reply only to jobs you’re qualified and available to do, and be clear about what a price includes.
  • Owner information you see through Pro Services (names, messages, job details, photos, approximate location) may be used only to respond to and perform that owner’s job. Don’t add it to marketing lists, sell it, or share it with anyone not involved in the job.
  • Taxes and records. You’re responsible for determining, charging, collecting, and remitting any sales, use, or other taxes, for your own income-tax reporting, and for keeping your own business records.
  • If an owner invited you to a job, you may reply to and quote that job without being an approved Pro, after verifying the email address the invitation was sent to. These terms apply to you the same way; invitation isn’t Pro approval and doesn’t give access to other jobs.
  • No fees today. The Pro program is currently free: no subscription, lead fees, or commissions. If that changes, we’ll give at least 30 days’ notice and you can leave the program before any charge applies.

5. Pro approval, badges & removal

6. Quotes & invoices

7. Messages & emails

8. Rules for everyone

When using Pro Services, don’t:

Report problems with the report tools on the site or by email. We may remove content and suspend accounts that break these rules.

9. Ratings & reviews

10. Your information in Pro Services

  • What approved Pros can see about a job request: your display name, job title and description, photos, boat details (if you add them), whether the boat is in or out of the water and what kind of place it’s kept (e.g. marina slip, mooring, boatyard, trailer), the marina, yard, or facility name (if you add it), timing, budget (if you add it), and your boat’s approximate area — a town and ZIP (or the first three characters of a Canadian postal code) and an approximate distance. The location we store is rounded to roughly half a mile. We never show your email address, street address, or slip number.
  • What owners can see about a Pro: the business’s public listing, ratings and reviews, badges, replies, and the contact details and payment options the business puts on its quotes and invoices.
  • What only administrators see: reports and private moderation notes about accounts, Pro applications (including contact, insurance, and license details you provide), and messages or documents when reported or needed for support, safety, or legal reasons.
  • Where it’s kept: the site runs on Google Firebase. Emails are sent from the site’s own mailbox. We don’t sell personal information or share it with advertisers.
  • Deletion: you can close a request at any time. To delete a request, application, or your account, email us; information already sent to another member (messages, quotes, invoices) may remain in their records.

For how the rest of the site handles information, see our Privacy Policy.

11. Disclaimers & limits of liability

Pro Services and all information on this site are provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, and non-infringement. We don’t warrant the accuracy of any listing, request, reply, quote, invoice, review, or badge, or the quality, safety, or legality of any work or product.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Sailboats USA will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, data, use, or property, or for personal injury or damage to any vessel, arising from or related to Pro Services, any work or transaction between members, or any member’s acts or omissions. Our total liability for any claim related to Pro Services will not exceed US$100.

Some places don’t allow certain warranty exclusions or liability limits, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

12. Responsibility for your own conduct

You agree to be responsible for, and to reimburse Sailboats USA for reasonable costs arising from, any claim by another person that results from your use of Pro Services, your content, your work or transactions with other members, or your breach of these terms or the law.
